By Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN INTRODUCTION Among the basic needs of life is housing which is an essential component of human existence and survival. The ideal thing is for every individual to have a place of rest, called a home. The United Nations defines the right to adequate housing as the right to live somewhere in security, peace, and dignity, as part of an adequate standard of living. It requires housing to be affordable, habitable, accessible, properly located, and culturally adequate, with legal security of tenure. This also includes and extends to legal security of tenure, protection against forced evictions, harassment,…
Michael Carrick’s men stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal, winning 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal went ahead through an unlucky Lisandro Martinez own goal before Bryan Mbeumo delivered a perfect response following an error from Martin Zubimendi. Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu leathered United ahead just after the restart, but there was heart-stopping late drama in store. Mikel Merino bundled home in the 84th minute but, as Arsenal pushed for a winner that would reinstate their seven-point lead at the top, Matheus Cunha curled home a brilliant finish to ultimately gave our new head coach a second victory in…

According to Chief Ologbon, no member of the ADC coalition in Lagos State possesses a political résumé comparable to that of Hon. Owokoniran. He said Owokoniran has served as a member…
Nigeria broke their penalty shootout hoodoo to secure third place (and the bronze medals) of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations, after edging Egypt 4-2 in a dramatic shootout at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Saturday. Going into the encounter, Nigeria had never lost a third-place match at the Africa Cup of Nations, and incidentally won their first when defeating Egypt 3-2 in Addis Ababa 50 years ago. Victory took them to a record-extending nine AFCON bronze titles, with Egypt at six. As has been the tradition in most third-place encounters, both teams fielded understrength squads following the…
Politics has a way of recruiting unusual contenders, and sometimes the strongest entry point is not a party office, but a public bond. That is the space Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat now occupies in Oyo, a broadcaster whose voice has become familiar enough to feel like presence, and whose name has moved beyond radio into the language of succession and ambition. He has now publicly declared his intention to run for Governor of Oyo State in 2027, under the formidable Accord Party. Hamzat is not just “a presenter.” He is the founder of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, a platform that is…

Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Desert Warriors of Algeria are set for a terrific showdown in the 45,000-capacity Grand Stade de Marrakech on Saturday, in the third quarter-final match of the ongoing 35th Africa Cup of Nations finals. Both countries, with five African titles between them, will throw everything into the encounter as they seek a place in the last-4 of perhaps the biggest and most glamorous AFCON tournament in the competition’s 69-year history. Both teams have been landlords elsewhere. The Eagles flew from Fès – where they had played all their group phase and Round of 16 matches –…
The camp of Nigeria’s Super Eagles has shot down insinuations and dark innuendoes of a rumpus in the team following Monday night’s 4-0 thrashing of Mozambique’s Mambas, which progressed the three-time champions to the last-8 of the ongoing 35th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco. Striker Victor Osimhen was seen making gestures to fellow forward Ademola Lookman just before a corner kick, and conjectures of various complexions have followed in the legacy and digital media. “There is no problem whatsoever in our camp. Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was easily resolved a couple of hours…
Nigeria are confident of reaching the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations for the 18th time when they engage Mozambique in Monday night’s Round of 16 tie at the Complexe Sportif de Fès. The Super Eagles have the record of most medals in the 69-year-old flagship football tournament of the African continent, viz three triumphs (gold medals), five runner-up positions (silver medals) and eight bronze acquisitions. The only three times they failed to reach the quarter-finals were at their debut in Ghana in 1963, at the 13th edition in Libya in 1982, and in Cameroon four years ago. Ghana…
