The Lagos State Government has announced a 90-day traffic diversion on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge around Ojota-Maryland axis, effective Monday, July 22, 2024.
The decision comes in response to the deteriorating condition of the bridge’s asphalt pavement and expansion joints.
According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair works will be carried out in two phases, with each phase involving the diversion of traffic on one side of the bridge.
Alternative routes have been provided for motorists during both phases.
Phase One: Ojota-Bound Lane Closure
* Motorists heading to Ojota from Maryland/Yaba will be diverted to the counterflow lane inbound Maryland.
* Traffic from Berger, Magodo, and Tollgate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway should use the Alapere/Ogudu axis towards Gbagada/Anthony Oke Bridge, then access Ikorodu Road.
* Vehicles from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way should use the Opebi Link Bridge to connect to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, then proceed through Maryland to Ikorodu Road.
Phase Two: Yaba/Ojuelegba/Maryland-Bound Lane Closure
* Specific alternative routes for this phase will be announced at a later date.
The government has urged motorists to anticipate traffic congestion during the repair period and to adhere to the designated alternative routes.
