Continuing her reign over middle-distance races, Faith Kipyegon of Kenya smashed the world record in the women’s 1500m at the Paris Diamond League. Clocking a blistering 3:49.04 in the final event, she shaved a mere 0.07 seconds off her own record set last year.

This feat came just hours after another world record fell at the same meet, with Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh clearing 2.10m in the high jump.

Kipyegon rocketed through the race, reaching the 800m mark in a swift 2:04. Australian Jess Hull kept pace, staying close behind the multi-gold medalist. After the pacemakers stepped aside, Kipyegon maintained the pressure, conquering the third lap in 60.8 seconds before accelerating further.

With a decisive kick at the bell, she surged ahead of Hull, securing the win and a new world record. Hull still had a remarkable run, finishing second in 3:50.83, a new Oceanian record that places her fifth all-time. Laura Muir of Great Britain also achieved a national record, claiming third place with a time of 3:53.79.

Kipyegon, visibly excited, attributed her success to recent fast times in Kenya, stating, “I knew the record was attainable based on my recent performances. Coming to Paris, I just wanted to race well and assess my form for the upcoming Olympic title defense.”
