-VC says management is proud of the team’s achievement
The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and members of the university management received and hosted the all-conquering UNITECOL champions, LASU Trail Blazers on Wednesday, 7th May 2025. The short but colourful event held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, 6th Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
A highly elated LASU Numero Uno, while receiving the young lads, in her address, said she was very proud of the team’s achievement, but, advised the players not to rest on their oars and should strive to win more laurels for the institution, in subsequent football tournaments.
In Vice-Chancellor’s words: “I am very proud of you. I followed the tournament on the university’s information platforms. The Director and Deputy Director, Centre for Sports and Recreation, kept me updated of the happenings. You have done well and I am proud of you. The university management, staff and the students are proud of you, as well. This is just the starting point; you will continue to do well, don’t rest on your oars and win more laurels for the university”.
Professor Olatunji-Bello added that the university’s vision – part of her agenda for sports – was already yielding results and this victory was a testament to that.
She added that LASU graduates were excelling in every sphere of endeavour, simply because the institution’s admission process is always merit driven.
Speaking further, she was confident that the team would not only conquer Nigeria, but, also West Africa, Africa and the world. She was particularly optimistic that the LASU girls representing Africa at the World University Games in China, this September would perform well. She thanked the technical crew, staff members of the Centre for Sports and Recreation as well as the Chairman, Sports Council, Professor Simeon Dosunmu on the feat attained by LASU Trail Blazers.
In response to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dosunmu thanked her and the management for their unwavering support. He averred that the university had become the golden bride of sports, and sporting competitions these days and no sporting competition complete without LASU’s participation. He concluded by highlighting the Trail Blazers’ remarkable feat in defeating the host, YABATECH, on their home soil, a feat no other team had achieved in a long time.
The Director, Centre for Sports and Recreation, LASU, Dr Segun Olawunmi, speaking on behalf of the team, technical crew and Centre, thanked the Vice-Chancellor, management and the university community for their massive support for the team. He ended his appreciation by saying the university was on course and would perform well in forthcoming national and international competitions.
The Vice-Chancellor personally presented gifts to the players, coaches, and other members of the team as a show of appreciation for their efforts. She announced that the cash prize from the organisers was for the team.
The captain of the team, Olatoye Idowu, presented the trophy won to Professor Olatunji-Bello, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Boyo decorated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olatunji-Bello, with the medal from the organisers.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Afisi and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Boyo were at the reception.
Others in attendance were the Deputy Registrar (VCO), Dr Lateef Shekoni, Deputy Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami, Deputy Registrar/Coordinator, CIPR, Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Director, Centre for Sports & Recreation, LASU, Mr Idowu Owoyemi, Coach, LASU Trail Blazers, Rahman Arubiewe and the Assistant Coach, Zebullon Olorunjeda.
