…Sanwo-Olu’s Chief of Staff, Ayinde Still In Contention
Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa yesterday met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Obasa confirmed the meeting in a post on his social media page.
He said: “It was a productive meeting focused on strengthening governance, delivering better outcomes for our people, and sustaining the progress Lagos is known for.
“As Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I want to assure you that we remain fully committed to working closely with the Presidency to drive policies that directly impact lives and move our state and nation forward.
“Together, we will keep building a Lagos and a Nigeria we can all be proud of.”
However, sources revealed that Obasa had been lobbying the President through the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to be considered for the Lagos West Senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The seat is currently being held by former Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Oluranti-Adebule.
It also emerged that the Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor, Mr Tayo Akinmade Ayinde (Buffalo) is still in contention for the ticket.
“The truth is that the 2027 race has begun in earnest. Our leader and father, President Tinubu is being lobbied by politicians regarding 2027 elections.
“Asiwaju has Nigeria to think about but politicians are mounting pressures on the President through various channels,” the source said.
Obasa, who is representing Agege State Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, is a formidable figure in the Lagos politics.
He is said to have his eyes on the Lagos West Senatorial seat, as he is a sixth-term lawmaker, serving his third term as Speaker.
His son is the current Chairman of Agege Local Government.
