A famous Islamic cleric and the Grand Mufti of Conference of Islamic Organizations (CIO) narrowly escaped death along Lantoro Road, Abéòkúta, Ogun State on Saturday 6th July, 2024 on his way to Èrúwà enroute Ibadan.

He was in a car with his closest associates, Sheikh Qamarudeen Ballo and Alhaj AYA Waheed. They were to attend a niqah of the child of Sheikh Bílaal at Èrúwà before coming to deliver a lecture in Ibadan on that fateful day.

According to Sheikh Qamarudeen Ballo, the vehicle lost its brake while on speed. If not for Allah’s mercy, not less than fifteen people would have died in the process. Nevertheless, three vehicles were severely damaged while the tyre of their car was removed on the speed and skidded on a ditch. The car was said to have been written off as the towing vehicle had removed it from the scene of the accident.

The three damaged vehicles had to be repaired and they were taken to the hospital for treatment. As Allah would have it none of them was hurt except Sheikh Shafii that had a cut in his left foot.

Despite the fatal accident, they still proceeded to attend to all their functions as planned.

It would be recalled that Muslim Community of the Yoruba extraction lost two renowned Islamic juggernauts; Dr Abdulrasheed Buwaeb Iwo, Sheikh Abdul-wahab Adebayo Akobo, Ibadan, and lately Alhaj Tajudeen Ajiboye, the former national Auditor of The Muslim Congress (TMC) within the last one week in which Sheikh Shafii and others were among the sympathisers. We pray Allah to safeguard us from such a collosal loss in our midst again.

The Sheikh and others have since gone back to Lagos on Sunday morning of 7th July, 2024 with another car from our medical brother in Abéòkúta.
