The Lagos State Taskforce cracked down on illegal bus operations along Adeniji-Adele and surrounding streets to ease traffic congestion and improve public safety.
Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele led the operation, highlighting the long-standing issue of illegal bus stops causing significant delays for drivers and residents.
Akerele condemned the bus drivers (danfo) for creating makeshift stops by occupying lanes, leading to frustrating commutes.
He emphasized using designated bus stops to ensure smoother traffic flow. The Chairman assured residents of continued, stricter enforcement across the state. These actions prioritize public well-being and ensure everyone can use public amenities efficiently.
The Taskforce also addressed similar problems in Awolowo Way and Ipodo Street near Ikeja Under Bridge, removing illegally parked vehicles that created bottlenecks.
Akerele confirmed the removal of 84 vehicles during these operations and promised to end the practice of illegal passenger pick-up and drop-off.
“Traffic congestion isn’t inevitable,” Akerele said.
“A few inconsiderate drivers cause it. The gridlock during rush hour spills over to Third Mainland Bridge and Kodesoh Street, making them unusable.”
The operation extended beyond vehicles.
The Taskforce cleared kiosks and makeshift stores on sidewalks along Adeniji-Adele, ensuring pedestrians have safe passage.
Traders on Ipodo Street were warned to remove their goods from the road or face confiscation. Akerele vowed to maintain the restored order and a peaceful environment.
