The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit concluded its 2024 Intellectual Competitions (LIC) finals in a display of academic excellence and youthful enthusiasm. The event featured competitions for junior and senior secondary school students, alongside an essay writing competition for undergraduates.

Junior School Champions Take the Stage

Royhana Ismail from Vetland Junior Grammar School emerged victorious in the junior secondary school quiz competition. Following closely behind were Farhan Sodiq (Usoolol Iman) and Abdul Rahman Olaloye (Taqwa School), who secured second and third place respectively.

Senior School Debate Heats Up

The senior secondary school debate competition saw Badore Community Senior Secondary School clinch the top spot, impressing the judges with their eloquence and well-reasoned arguments. Taqwa High School and Linksbond College followed suit, taking second and third place respectively.

Aminat Ayinde and Azeemah Afolabi Shine as Top Speakers

Individual brilliance was also recognized. Aminat Ayinde, representing Sanya Senior Grammar School, received the Best Speaker award. Azeemah Afolabi from Muhimat Memorial School wasn’t far behind, taking home the 2nd Best Speaker title.

University Students Showcase Research Prowess

In the undergraduate essay writing competition, Shitta Romlah (Lagos State University) secured the top prize. Ogundipe Nurudeen (University of Lagos) and Fathia Abolanle (University of Lagos) also impressed the judges, claiming second and third place respectively.

MSSN Lagos Recognises Potential and Calls for Support

MSSN Lagos President, Kamoldeen Abiona, commended the meticulous organization and enthusiastic participation. He highlighted the competition’s ability to showcase individual achievements and the potential within Nigerian educational institutions.

Abiona stressed the importance of government and corporate partnerships to expand the competition’s reach and impact. This collaboration, he believes, can provide resources and contribute to cultivating the next generation of leaders.

MSSN Lagos Intellectual Competitions: A Celebration of Learning

Mustapha Muhammad, Director of Studies for MSSN Lagos and Chairman of LIC 2024, applauded the participants’ intellectual maturity evident in the debates, quiz responses, and essays. He emphasized the competition’s role in fostering healthy competition, critical thinking, public speaking, and research skills – all crucial for success in today’s world.

“The MSSN Lagos Intellectual Competitions were not just about academic talent,” concluded Muhammad. “They celebrated intellectual curiosity, disciplined preparation, and the value of structured academic challenges in shaping well-rounded individuals. With continued support, this competition has the potential to become an even greater beacon of educational excellence, nurturing future leaders across the region.”
