… Says ‘I Have No Rift With Governor Makinde, Olubadan’
The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, has dismissed speculations of a rift between him and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as well as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, insisting that their relationships remain cordial.
Speaking with journalists in Oyo town, the monarch said there was no misunderstanding between him and the governor, noting that any issue, if it arises, would be resolved privately, the Nigerian Tribune reports.
“I have nothing against the government. The governor has been very nice. If there is anything, I will meet him one-on-one,” he said.
Oba Owoade also debunked rumours of strained relations with the Olubadan, stressing that both traditional rulers maintain mutual respect and understanding.
“My relationship with the Olubadan is cordial. There is no misunderstanding,” he stated.
He attributed the spread of such claims to bloggers and individuals seeking attention, noting that false narratives often trail prominent traditional institutions.
Addressing concerns over his recent absence at public functions, the Alaafin explained that he had been indisposed for some time but would resume full participation once fully recovered.
The monarch also clarified a recent incident that fuelled speculation, saying a perceived snub involving a handshake with the Olubadan was unintentional and later resolved.
“I extended my hand to him, but he later explained that he did not see it. I don’t see it as an offence. We later spoke and met again. There is no issue,” he said.
Oba Owoade further expressed appreciation to the media for its support, describing journalists as partners in progress.
He disclosed that preparations were underway for his birthday on July 18, during which three individuals would be conferred with chieftaincy titles.
On development efforts, the monarch revealed that a land committee had been established to address disputes, while plans were ongoing for the construction of a civic centre and renovation of the palace.
He reiterated his commitment to peace, unity, and development, urging the public to disregard unfounded rumours and continue supporting traditional institutions.
